In September 2nd, sanitation workers cleaned up water floats in the ninety-nine Bay inland river of Longwen District, Zhangzhou City, Fujian province. The ninety-nine Bay, 50.5 kilometers long, is the most extensive inland river in the city. Due to neglect of management, sewage discharge, and disorderly construction, 99 Bay was once "black, smelly, silted and dirty". Since 2014, Longwen District has launched a three-year plan of action for comprehensive improvement of the ecological water system in the Ninety-Ninth Bay. At present, more than 300 million yuan has been invested in the comprehensive improvement of 45.19 kilometers of the river course. Some of the restored reaches have witnessed the emergence of water townships in southern Fujian with leaping birds and fish and rippling blue waves.
